
Kyle Story, Site Director Intern (SOS114)
Kyle Story is f rom Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from The College of Wooster with a major in Religious Studies and minors in Philosophy and Political Science. He is excited about his position working as the Site Director Intern of SOS114, an expansion of SOS in the Memphis neighborhood of Orange Mound, and is anxious to see the ways the Lord uses this ministry to bless that community. While he has no idea what he will be doing in the future, he is sure that he will be doing some sort of mission work wherever the Lord leads him next.
Peter Bouck, Refugee Resettlement Intern (Christ Community Ministries)
Peter Bouck grew up in Germantown, TN, and graduated from the University of Texas with majors in Plan II Honors and History. After living a year on the island of Malta, Peter has remained interested in learning foreign languages and communicating across cultures. He is seeking how better to love the refugee families here in Memphis and how to be the kind of neighbor that Jesus commands his followers to be.
Lacey Craig, Intern (A Way Out)
Lacey Craig grew up in Longview, Texas, and graduated from Texas A&M University in 2009 with a degree in Human Resources and minors in Management and Communication. For her internship with the Academy, Lacey is working at Citizens for Community Values in the A Way Out program. Lacey loves serving the women who wish to leave the sex for sale industry in Memphis and learning all about being a neighbor and obedient follower of Christ through the Academy.
Noah Gray, Director of Properties (Binghampton Development Corporation)
Noah Gray is from St. Louis, Missouri and graduated in May 2009 from the University of Missouri with an undergraduate degree in Finance and Banking with an emphasis in Real Estate. Noah is interested in community development and loves his job. He will remain in Memphis at the end of the Academy year and continue to work for the Binghampton Development Corporation. After getting married July 10, 2010, Noah and Emily look forward to living in Binghampton. Despite Noah’s picture, smiling is his favorite.
Amber King, Administrative Intern (Binghampton Development Corporation)
Amber King is from central IL and graduated from Illinois State University with a BS in Economics. Before moving to Memphis, she was working the Home Builders Association and volunteering with IlliniLife Christian Fellowship, a campus ministry at the University of Illinois. Amber is thrilled to be a part of the Academy and get to work along side new and experienced urban missionaries as we figure out how to bring God's love and kingdom reign to Binghampton and the Greater Memphis Area.
Jonathan King, Refugee Resettlement Intern (Christ Community Ministries)
Jonathan King grew up Sparta, a small town in southern Illinois. He then traveled to Urbana-Champaign where he graduated with a bachelors in General Engineering and Marketing. After a paradigm-shifting six months in Southern Africa during his college years, he began rethinking his vocational plans. Upon graduation, Jonathan found himself working full-time as a campus minister at Illinois with Illini Life Christian Fellowship. Early on he met his stunning bride, Amber, and they worked together serving college students at Illinois before God introduced them to Binghampton during a spring break trip. Now in Memphis, alongside his best friend, he is seeking to know Christ more and be a faithful disciple among a multi-cultural and marginalized neighborhood.
Julie Latcham, Intern (Advance Memphis)
During spring break of 2009, Julie participated in a mission trip to SOS in Memphis, and felt that God might be calling her to continue serving the city after graduation. In May, Julie graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in marketing and minor in management and, shortly thereafter, came back to Memphis to participate in SOS Academy. Through SOS Academy, Julie will serve one year as an intern at Advance Memphis.
Greg May, Construction Intern (Binghampton Development Corporation)
Greg May was born and raised in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where he has an amazing church family at Heritage United Methodist Church. He was involved in SOS as an adult leader while in college. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 2008 and started a job for the university while working towards getting into Medical School. His interest in the Binghampton Community grew through conversations with an Academy Intern of 2008, Emily Howell Cook. He is so blessed to be serving this community and has been amazed with the consistency of God's awesome love. He looks forward to continuing his quest to further God's Kingdom as he starts Medical School in the fall.
Catherine Neal, Refugee Resettlement Intern (Christ Community Ministries)
Catherine Neal grew up in Bartlett, TN, and graduated from Union University with her degree in Intercultural Studies. After serving two summers on SOS summer staff Catherine fell in love with the Binghampton neighborhood and the many internationals that live there. She is interning at Christ Community Ministries learning how to serve the refugee community in Binghampton.
Spencer Simmons, Office Intern (SOS)
Spencer comes to us from good old Greenville, SC. She is a recent high school graduate and has delayed her enrollment in college for one year to be a part of the Academy. Spencer works at SOS as the office intern and at Streets (an after school ministry for 1st-12th graders). She found out about SOS and the SOS Academy through a Google search and highly recommends using Google for any and all major life decisions. Spencer enjoys being sassy, playing lacrosse, and eating cheese and peanut butter.
Maddie Smith, Refugee Resettlement Intern (Christ Community Ministries)
Madeleine comes to us from the Yankee state of Minnesota. She spent the summer of 2006 on SOS summer staff as a team leader where she fell in love with the community and desired to learn how to love Jesus more. She completed her degree in Social Work and Spanish at Gordon College in Massachusetts. Before joining the academy she spent 5 months learning how to grow organic vegetables on a farm in Minnesota. She hopes to spend her life living in community with those made poor and help redevelop these communities. Currently she is working with the Memphis refugee population and is learning how to love the stranger. She enjoys playing sports, especially ice hockey, speaking Spanish, learning new things, green things, music, being a Yankee and practicing her Minnesotan accent.
