College Summer Staff

Each summer SOS looks for approximately 45 college-age men and women with a desire to pour themselves into the lives of others as they share the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. This summer, close to 1,500 high school students and their leaders will come to SOS to serve for a one-week mission trip. With the help of these volunteers, SOS hopes to work on 45 homes in the inner city neighborhood of Memphis known as Binghampton. However, in order to do this ministry, we need summer staff to lead these high school groups as we do home repairs with the poor and disabled in Binghampton.

To fill these summer staff positions, we are looking for devoted followers of Jesus Christ who desire to commit themselves to making disciples of all nations and peoples. The work required of you is hard, strenuous and tiresome, but with eternal benefits! As a summer staff, you are given the opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with not only the 1,500 students who will be at SOS this summer, but also with the homeowners we work with everyday. You are given the opportunity to be part of the SOS family as we seek to love, stretch, challenge, encourage and affirm one another as brothers and sisters in the Lord. Not only is SOS a ministry to high school students and homeowners of Binghampton, but also a ministry to the summer staff. We want you to leave SOS having cultivated a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, new friends and family for years to come and with a heart devoted to reaching the poor and oppressed in the name of Christ.

We are looking for men and women with the following attributes:

  • A knowledge and experience of the saving grace of Jesus Christ
  • An understanding of and commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in your personal life
  • An understanding and commitment to the authority of Scripture in your personal life
  • A desire to share the saving message of Jesus Christ
  • A desire to love people in the name of Jesus Christ
  • A willingness to submit to authority and display humility in all matters of ministry and personal life

As a summer staff member, you will reap the eternal rewards and blessings of witnessing God work through summer missions… AND get paid! Summer staff are paid $175 a week or $1,750 for the full term (10 weeks). We understand that many of you have very busy summers and may not be able to work a SOS for the full term. We still want you to come work for us! To make this possible, if you are unable to work for the full term, you can work Term 1 (the first half of the summer) or Term 2 (the second half of the summer). However, priority will be given to individuals applying for full term.

High School Summer Staff

Each summer SOS hires 5 young men and 2 young women who either live or attend high school in the 38112 zip code. We are looking for student leaders who desire to work hard with a positive attitude. The job is 5 days a week for the months of June and July. Each high school summer staff will get paid $2,000 for the summer.
